ABeam Consulting Vietnam introduces BSQCD Purchasing Strategy Framework
As Vietnam strengthens its position as a global manufacturing hub, businesses face increasingly complex supply chain challenges. From global disruptions to sustainability requirements and digital transformation demands, traditional supply chain management approaches are no longer sufficient. Recognising these evolving needs, ABeam Consulting Vietnam has launched the innovative BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework in Vietnam.

Ryohei Oda, managing director of ABeam Consulting Vietnam, said, “Traditional QCD (quality, cost, delivery) metrics served businesses well in the past, but today’s complex business environment demands a more comprehensive approach. Our BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework adds crucial elements of business continuity planning and sustainability to create a complete supplier relationship management solution.”
The BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework represents:
- B (Business Continuity Planning): Ensuring supply chain resilience against disruptions
- S (Sustainability): Meeting environmental and social governance requirements
- Q (Quality): Maintaining product and service excellence
- C (Cost): Optimising operational efficiency and unit price
- D (Delivery): Ensuring reliable and timely fulfilment
Vietnam’s manufacturing sector faces unique challenges, including growing pressure from global customers for sustainable practices; increasing competition from other manufacturing hubs; rising labour costs and skill requirements; complex international compliance requirements; and digital transformation imperatives.
“The BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework is particularly relevant for Vietnam’s manufacturing sector,” Yoshihiro Wake, lead of TEF and Supply Chain Practice Lead at ABeam Consulting Vietnam said. “It helps companies address supply chain risks, meet sustainability demands, and optimise operational efficiency amid rising labour costs and global competition. By integrating BCP, sustainability, and QCD, manufacturers can enhance resilience, reduce costs, and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving market.”
“In focus on S – sustainability, At ABeam, we focus on solving social challenges and creating a sustainable impact, which is also important in Vietnam’s growing market. We have to build eco-friendly supply chains and reduce carbon and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Therefore, GHG visualisation is a key first step in green transformation (GX). It’s important to see your GHG emissions, but you don’t need a complicated system at the start. Tools like Microsoft Office and low-code/no-code platforms can help you visualise emissions at a low cost.

He further noted, “Once you know how much GHG you are producing and which processes emit the most emissions, you can consider further actions, such as using more complex systems or implementing energy-efficient technologies. To support this, we use a methodology called the ‘GX Management Cycle,’ starting with a clear plan. A strong plan is essential for promoting GX. Many companies are asked to pursue GX without making a plan. However, that doesn’t work. After we create a clear plan, we set priorities and follow the PDCA cycle to take action. That is our approach to sustainability in logistics”.
A BSQCD long-term strategy requires development by backcasting from the future to the present after defining key issues and clarifying the ideal state. As a roadmap example, with “strengthening stakeholder responsiveness” established as a company-wide vision for 2030, milestones could be set such as “enhancing supplier information acquisition” and “information visualisation” by 2024, and “supplier evaluation/selection” and “collaborative improvement activities” by 2026, establishing a path to the goal.
ABeam has already implemented the BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework with several leading manufacturers in Asia, achieving significant results. As part of its efforts to strengthen supplier information management, ABeam has focused on the following key areas:
- Company-wide Policy: Ensuring strict adherence to governance and social responsibility standards.
- Market Trends: Recognising the increasing global disruptions caused by wars, geopolitical tensions, and the growing impact of sustainability regulations.
- Current State: Acknowledging that supplier information is currently managed in a fragmented and suboptimal way, with each department or process handling information separately.
- Ideal State: Working towards achieving stable procurement practices and better alignment of supplier data across the organisation.
In addition to addressing the internal challenges identified, ABeam has re-evaluated and defined new business processes and use cases that can be driven by supplier information. This collaborative effort involved key departments such as Purchasing and Sustainability, who worked together to consolidate use cases and develop a comprehensive strategy to enhance overall procurement practices.
The BSQCD Purchasing Strategy framework leverages cutting-edge technologies, including AI-powered predictive analytics, real-time monitoring systems, integrated data platforms, and advanced visualisation tools.
