At OFRA, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care for our residents and we are looking for a dynamic and driven Accounting Assistant to join our team.
Under the direction of the Manager of Finance, the Accounting Assistant supports OFRA’s financial operations by performing a variety of accounting, clerical, and administrative tasks. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial records, timely processing of accounts payable, and effective support to the Financial Analysts in reconciliation and reporting activities.
Qualifications
• Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
• 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in non profit, healthcare, housing, or public sector environments.
• Experience with accounts payable and reconciliations required.
• Strong proficiency in accounting software, experience with GP Dynamics an asset.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to Manage Competing priorities and deadlines
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Responsibilities
Financial Support & Reconciliations
• Assist the Financial Analyst with monthly, quarterly, and year end reconciliations (petty cash, resident trust, vendor accounts, credit cards, etc.).
• Support preparation of audit schedules and documentation for external auditors.
• Assist with variance analysis and data gathering for Ministry of Long Term Care (MLTC) and Ontario Health (OH) reporting.
• Maintain accurate and organized financial records in accordance with retention policies.
Accounts Payable
• Process vendor invoices in accordance with organizational policies and funding guidelines.
• Verify coding, approvals, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Prepare weekly cheque/EFT runs and ensure timely payments.
• Maintain vendor files.
• Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
Resident & Tenant Financial Administration
• Support billing processes for resident accommodation fees, retirement home charges, and ancillary services.
• Provide courteous and confidential support to residents, families, and staff regarding financial inquiries.
General Administrative & Finance Support
• Prepare and enter journal entries as directed.
• Support the Finance team with special projects, data entry, and reporting.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and internal controls.
Wage: $25.00- 30.39 per hour
