Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Avera Health and Owens & Minor Inc., a Fortune 500 global health care company, officially opened their new integrated service center with a ribbon cutting April 29. The 330,000-square-foot building is on Memory Circle at Foundation Park in northwest Sioux Falls. Virginia-based Owens & Minor designs, manufactures and sources health care products. The company has provided medical supplies to Avera since 2012, but this is its first location in South Dakota. Avera will occupy about 155,000 square feet and has started to move in with a phased approach, aimed at being fully operational by midyear. Avera will use its space to manage and coordinated medical supply logistics, including centralized pharmacy services.

Augustana University broke ground in late April on Foundation Heights, an apartment building for students. The project is being developed with Lloyd Cos. Foundation Heights, which will be on the northeast corner of 28th and Grange, will house more than 100 students. The building will consist primarily of two- and four-bedroom suites, along with 13 single units. It’s expected to be complete by fall 2026.

Tania Mejia has opened The Flower Bar at 2109 S. Minnesota Ave. The storefront for the business, which Mejia started three years ago, offers a build-your-own bouquet flower bar, a variety of succulents, custom-order catalogs and a selection of pre-made arrangements for drop-in customers.

Rosie’s Cafe closed May 8 after 41 years of serving breakfast and lunch in the West Sioux neighborhood. Owner Beckie Mettler is opening Rosie’s Farmhouse Cafe in Chester, which is closer to her home. Mettler took over Rosie’s Cafe at 2200 W. Madison St. from her mother, Rosie Werner, almost 25 years ago.

Falls Park Farmers Market reopened for the season May 3. It’s on the north side of Falls Park and is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday until the last weekend in October. It features 40 vendors, including six that are new to the market.

Wagoo Burger’s final day in Fernson Downtown is May 22. Owner Paul Ode is looking for a new location and plans to use the business’ food truck more frequently in the interim. Wagoo’s Eggsmack breakfast menu is being served now Friday through Sunday mornings at the downtown location for Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill, which Ode also owns. Fernson Brewing Co. plans to open its own food concept in the taproom space.

Augustana University has transformed its International Programs Office into the De & Dave Knudson Center for Global Engagement. The transition comes after the Knudsons presented the university with a $1 million matching gift two years ago, which Augustana was able to match. The vision of the De & Dave Knudson Center for Global Engagement is to be the heart of the intercultural exchange in the region, with a focus on bringing diverse people and their cultures together, providing better access to international experiences and engaging in more transformational learning opportunities.

Stefan Bernardino has opened Sanctuary Goods in the Jones421 Building at 421 N. Phillips Ave. His store sells custom jewelry, art, crystals, and health and wellness products.

The first 7 Brew drive-thru coffee concept has opened in Sioux Falls. The new stand-alone building is at 3707 S. Louise Ave. on The Empire Mall campus. It’s open daily.

A major multifamily development marks the first foray into the Omaha market for Sioux Falls real estate investment firm Ernst Capital Group. Cherry Creek Village sits on 60 acres on Omaha’s west side. Ernst Capital partnered with Sioux Falls-based Signature Cos. on the apartment development, which will be managed by Sioux Falls-based Lloyd Cos.

WoodGrain Brewing Co. has opened its second location in Sioux Falls. The new brewery and taproom, which also serves food, is in the former Obscure Brewing Co. building at 5200 E. Grant St. It’s open daily.

Dine Cafe, which features take-and-bake and grab-and-go meals, will close its storefront in south Sioux Falls no later than May 23. Owners Shea and Sara Geelan will move the prepared-meal operations to the Lennox commercial kitchen used by their other business, Dialed In Nutrition. They will continue to operate both brands. Dine customers will be able to order meals online once its website is ready, with delivery and pickup options like those offered by Dialed In Nutrition.

Hartford-based ANCO Holdings has bought Spearfish-based Ainsworth-Benning Construction from Journey Group Cos. The acquisition allows ANCO Holdings, which also has an office in Piedmont, to expand into general contracting services, adding to its utility, energy, wireless and development infrastructure services. Ainsworth-Benning will continue operations under its established name and leadership.

Linda Mathiasen has launched Okapi Strategy, which combines best practices from economic development, internal communications and public relations to serve as a strategic partner for organizations during times of uncertainty. The firm uses a framework based on lean, Six Sigma and relationship-based business development. Services include tailored road maps, communication planning and messaging, and implementation tools designed to align people, processes and purpose. Mathiasen relocated to Sioux Falls last year and has spent more than 20 years working at the intersection of business, government and the nonprofit sector. Okapi Strategy is a rebrand for her prior business, LDMarketing, which she founded in 2005.
