One figure from Wrexham’s financial accounts is truly astonishing, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ master plan is working

Wrexham’s rise under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds continues with the club posting incredible financial records on Thursday.

Much of the focus around Wrexham right now is on the League One promotion race.

Wrexham’s 1-0 win over Stockport County last weekend leaves Phil Parkinson’s side in second place.

Wycombe Wanderers have a game in hand on Wrexham, but there is a real chance for a third straight promotion.

Wrexham’s financial figures for the 2023-24 season are sparking major interest, though, as the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds project continues to move forward.

Wrexham have hit £27million in turnover, a staggering increase from around £10.5million in the 2022-23 season.

One Wrexham financial figure is truly remarkable

These numbers are hugely impressive, but one figure really catches the eye.

The Athletic note that Wrexham’s sponsorship income increased to an enormous £13.1million.

That figure was around £1.8million in the 2022-23 and has increased seven-fold for the year in which Wrexham were in League Two.

You read that correctly; Wrexham were raking in more than £13million in sponsorship revenue whilst sitting in League Two.

That figure is just unbelievable and a sign of how the McElhenney and Reynolds master plan is working.

Wrexham don’t actually bring in any money from ‘Welcome to Wrexham’.

Shaun Harvey confirmed in April 2024 that the global documentary hit doesn’t provide a direct revenue stream for Wrexham.

However, Wrexham view the show as a great platform for potential sponsors, believing that the level of exposure helps increase the value of those deals.

“What the Club does receive is a marketing platform to increase the value of all our sponsorship investors and greater exposure of the Club which is driving retail sales,” said Harvey.

Here we are; Wrexham are posting numbers to make many Championship clubs jealous, as that ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ plan pays dividends.

Deals with United Airlines and STōK helped those numbers sky-rocket, and we can only imagine that they will only be even larger now Wrexham are in League One.

Wrexham bypass Championship clubs thanks to Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds

We looked through some accounts from Championship clubs and focused on the commercial income.

That does cover a wider range than just sponsorship, but the numbers are fascinating.

In the same period as Wrexham’s latest financial reports, Coventry City made £9.1million in commercial income, as noted by The Swiss Ramble.

Preston North End will bring up 10 years as Championship club in May but only posted £3.1million of income for the entire commercial department in the 2023-24 season, including merchandising.

Wrexham’s numbers are blowing away Championship clubs – even with these reports coming from the League Two season.

The higher Wrexham go, the more lucrative these deals will become, which may leave McElhenney and Reynolds eyeing Premier League-level sponsorship income before long.
