Penn State University Press welcomes new finance specialist
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Joe Sabol, former corporate accounting manager at Equitrans Midstream Corporation, was named finance specialist at Penn State University Press (PSUP), effective Oct. 13.
“At Penn State University Press we are pleased to welcome Joe Sabol to our team,” said David Aycock, executive director. “As new revenue channels and distribution methods emerge in publishing, the accounting expertise and strategic acumen that Joe brings to the role are vital for furthering our mission and building our program.”
Sabol brings deep experience in finance and accounting to PSUP, having also previously worked as the director of finance for Rex Energy Corporation and the senior manager of corporate accounting at Wabtec, Inc.
“I’m thrilled to join Penn State University Press in its mission to highlight and share the work of authors from around the world who contribute their insights and expertise through books and scholarly publications. In a time when most of what we consume comes in fast, fleeting bursts on social media, it’s refreshing — and important — to champion the lasting impact of thoughtful, in-depth writing. After all, no one ever says they’re going to curl up with a good social media clip,” Sabol said.
Penn State has always been a major presence in Sabol’s life. It was the only university to which he applied and is where he earned his bachelor of science in accounting.
“I’m especially grateful to be back in the part of the state where my family has always felt most at home,” Sabol said. “My connection to Penn State runs deep: My wife, who also works at Penn State, and I met as students. Both of our sons are proud graduates, and we count numerous Penn State alumni among our extended family. Beyond my professional life, I am closely connected to the university community — supporting Penn State athletics (especially wrestling and football), campus and community outreach through my church, and of course, the Creamery.”
Sabol is now the primary contact for all things related to PSUP’s finances: royalties, payables and receivables, reporting and auditing.
As a vital component of the University community, Penn State University Press reflects many of the University’s academic strengths in the liberal arts. Overall, the press publishes about 90 books and 80 journal titles — approximately 175 issues — annually. Titles published under the Penn State University Press imprint include academic publications by researchers around the world in a number of fields and disciplines for a global readership. Those under the Eisenbrauns imprint include academic books about the languages, archaeology and history of the ancient Near East. The Graphic Mundi imprint includes graphic novels for popular audiences that speak to social, environmental and contemporary cultural issues.
The press also recognizes its special responsibility to develop publications about Pennsylvania, both scholarly and popular, that enhance interest in the region and spread awareness of the commonwealth’s history, culture and environment.
